Thomas, thanks for your reply, My g,grandfather's name was Frederick. This may or may not be a bit ironic, but the earl;iest record I have on Frederick is the 1900 Litchfield Co., Litchfield Twp., CT. census, where, at age 16, he is living as a farm hand with John Hurley and Bessie (Kirwin) Hurley. family story it that Fredderick's parents died while the children were young, and the original surname was Hubbard. Fred was taken in as a farm hand by John Hurley and his wife of abt. 6 yrs. Bessie (Kirwin) Hurley. Fred had 2 siblings named Arthur and May/Mae, but he never knew what became of his siblings. Fred for whatever reason "took" the surname Hurley, but was never adopted. On most documents, Fred list's his place of birth as either New Haven or Thompsonville, (now Enfield), CT.Fred's birth date is approx. May of 1884. So it stands to reason that this Arthur who is a boarder at age 18 in the 1900 Enfield census could very well be the brother of Frederick. I don't know where your Kerwins are from, but I have info. from Bessie Kirwins probate records with many family members listed. Most are from Mass. I posted this info. on Kirwins abt. a year ago and never got a reply. But it could be that Fred, (and siblings) were somehow related to her? (probably distantly if anything). If you think you have any info. let me know! Maureen Hurley-Peters hmp93@sbcglobal.net Notify Administrator about this message?
