Hi,
UEL stands for United Empire Loyalist. Its an organization- members on list were folks who registered as Loyalists or whose descendants completed the necessary paper work to get an ancestor added officially to the list.
David TURNEY is not on the list in Canada but I find in a book "Biographical Sketches of Loyalists of the American Revolution" there is an entry for a:
"David TURNEY of Reading, Connecticut, A member of the Association." (I think that means he was a member of the Loyalist Association)
An earlier (2003) Turney surname board post mentioned a:
- David TURNEY had land confiscated in Fairfield in the Revolution and a David TURNEY was in the Indian Dept with the British in the Revolution.
I am trying to find out more about this.
What was the Indian Dept? Where would I find that his property in Fairfield was confisgated? Is there a book that has more on the loyalists?- Thanks - Mary
