I forgot that there is online access to the Stamford Advocate newspaper transcriptions from 2001 to present. Here is Catherine (Yoder) Overton-Jones' obituary:
"Catherine Overton-Jones, a longtime Darien resident, died Monday, Sept. 27, at Edgehill Lifecare Community in Stamford. She was 99. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Sept. 7, 1905, in Morton, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Henry Lee and Myrtle Muberry Yoder. She graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., then earned her master's degree in English literature from Columbia University in New York City. She also did doctoral work at Oxford University in England.
Mrs. Overton-Jones moved to Darien in 1950. She was a high school English teacher for public schools in Morton and in Darien, serving as head of Darien High School's English department for more than two years during the Korean War. After her retirement from full-time teaching, she continued to teach as a substitute and volunteered in the Darien High School guidance department.
Mrs. Overton-Jones also taught piano in Darien for more than 50 years. She was a 50-year member of Darien Community Association Duo Piano Group. She is survived by a daughter, Judith Overton-Jones, of Dover, Vt.; a grandson; and a great-grandson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward Overton-Jones; and a brother, Robert Yoder.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the First Congregational Church in Darien. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Darien Community Association Scholarship Fund, 274 Middlesex Road, Darien, CT 06820. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, handled arrangements."
