I'm looking for a Thomas family who lived in or near Voluntown, CT in the early 1830's who had a son, George A. According to his Civil War Volunteer Enlistment paper dated August 7, 1862, George A. Thomas was born in Voluntown; he was age 28 making his birth year about 1834; he lived in Woodville, RI before he enlisted; his enlistment paper was sworn and subscribed to in Hopkinton, RI. Poor George didn't get to figt for his country; he died eight months later, April 14, 1863 in Baltimore, MD from cholera. Fortunately he did leave a son to carry on the family name.
