Bridgeport can be a little tough because the central index only covers vital records after 1922. Before that there are only annual indexes. On top of this, the staff in vital records will only look for records if you supply a specific date and event.

The Bridgeport newspaper is available at the library, but neither marriages or obituaries are indexed. The library also have city directories which sometimes contains the death date.

I think Connecticut Genealogical Society might supply a list of researchers (I have never used a "professional" but I should think someone should be able to come up with a fair amount of information without terrible expense.) Also, the Connecticut Ancestry Society might supply names.

Good luck!
