William Gubbins was killed in an Indiana attack in March 1786 near present day Nashville TN ... per letter from a survivor of the attack (Anthony Bledsoe) to Governor Caswell. At that time the area was part of the state of North Carolina. "Gubbins" is similar to "Cubbins", and perhaps there is a family connection. Nashville is about 70 miles west of where my William Cubbins who died abt 1841 and whose estate was administered in DeKalb County TN. He married Unicey (Eurnice) Braswell abt 1830s in what is now DeKalb County TN. He is a a "brick wall" for me! I can find nothing about his origin. There was a McCubbin family residing in Putnam County TN (abt 40 miles to the east) at about the same time, but I have been unable to connect them with my William Cubbins. The search goes on!
