Vera,

Your father's death certificate should show the name of his father and maiden name of his mother and the state they were born, assuming the person who gave the information knew it. You probably already have more information on your father's line, but if you do not, you should order his death certificate and social security application. Sometimes the funeral home has information also. The funeral home would be listed on the death certificate if you do not already know it.
