Dear Brenda:There are a lot of William Buchanans.I don't have specific data on the ones you are looking for. However, sometimes it is good to have all the info and eliminate the ones that aren't yours.Since my great grandfather Edward Buchanan migrated from Indiana, and his father James died there, it is possible there is some connection.
Before 1930 my great grandmother, Jeannette Culbert Buchanan, was contacted about a Buchanan estate - supposedly kin to President Buchanan. Some say it was a scheme, but she put out no money and was furnished with what research they had collected. It's been so long but I think she signed some papers and received a small sum to release all her rights to any money. There were so "heirs" many involved. Here is what they gave her about our line and further research has attested to it's accuracy. This is about four Buchanan brothers that came to America at the same time and settled first in Pennsylvania. It reads:
"According to family records Edward Buchanan was born in Madison, Indiana, Co. of Jefferson, on the 13th day of Sept., 1850, being the youngest child of James Buchanan and Susannah Bitterman, who were married in Chester Co., PA, about 1836 and moved to Madison, Indiana.
"That James Buchanan was born on the 12th day of June, 1813, and died in Madison,Indiana, 1879, was the youngest son of Samuel Buchanan, who married Sarah Piersol, daughter of Jerimiah Persol, of Chester County, PA about 1796.
"That Samuel Buchanan was the son of Matthew Buchanan II, who married the daughter of Mathew Robinson of Chester Co., PA.
"Mrs. Elizabeth Wagoner Grube, probably 70 years old (about 1930), now residing in Honey Brook, PA, states that the present Honey Brook, PA is the original settlement of the Buchanan family. That her grandfather, WILLIAM BUCHANAN, told her that four boys came from around Londonderry, IReland, and settled in Chester Co., PA; Samuel, John, Matthew, and James. Matthew is our ancestor, the father of John, Samuel, and Andrew. That aone settled on the present Frank Buchanan farm; one on the prsent LeRoy Farm; one, our ancestor, on the David Beam farm, and one on Mrs. Grube's farm. This is the reputed ancestor of Pres. James Buchanan.
"That Mathew Buchanan, 1st had wife and issue:
Mathew Jr or II; John; Samuel; Andrew; James; and no names of daughters given.
"That Mathew Buchanan Jr. or II [b. abt. 1744, Chester, Co, PA] married a daughter [Martha or Margaret] of Mathew Robinson of Chester Co., PA and has issue: Samuel[b.1772]; Mathew III, Magaret; John; and Martha.
"That Samuel Buchanan [b. 1772, PA, d. 1814] married Sarah Piersol of Chester Co., PA and had issue: WILLIAM [b. 3/31/1797, md Elizabeth Boyer]; Elizabeth [1812]; Jesse[b. 1805]; Jeremih[b. 1801]; Mathew[b.between 17981800]; and James[b. 1813, PA, d. 1879 Madsion, IND].
"That James Buchanan[b. 1813, d. 1879 Madison, IN] married Susanah Bitterman of Chester Co., PA, and moved to Madison, Indiana and had issue:
Samuel; John; Mary; Sarah; WILLIAM; James; and Edward." END
Brenda, there are several Williams in this list [I put that name in caps.] Also gave you the dates I have for the various children.Edward Buchanan, my great grandfather, named one of their sons William Henry Buchanan.Could have been a coincidence or after an uncle or cousin.Since Edward and his father James lived in Madison, IND and there was a William son of James, bro of Edward, might explore the possibilities there.
I doubt if this is much help, but may help you reject some that you come across until your find the ones you are looking for.
Also in my notes found in "Will and Administrations, Chester CO Court House, West Chester, PA from 1713 through 1850": William Buchanan, West Nottingham twp. 1769, Will.
I had a lot of enjoyment and fun doing genealogy research and wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely, Charmaine
