As far as I know, none of these people had middle names.I have their birth records from Ireland and there is no middle name listed for any of Mathew's children, but I'm not wholely convinced that it's the end of the story because his daughters, Kate and Maggie, are actually registered as "Kate" and "Maggie" even though they are actually "Catherine" and "Margaret".
As for wives and children... I wish I knew.We have Robert's birth record and know that he was born 27 Oct 1883 in the township of Carrownasaul (this is in the Poor Law Union and civil parish of Kilmacrenann), in County Donegal. In the 1901 Irish census he was not listed as living with Mathew's family, but we know he's still living because his mother, Mary, claims that only one of her children is deceased and we already know it to be their son, James (1), who died as a child.Robert was the Mathew and Mary's eldest child (named after Mathew's brother, Robert, who may have been a twin to Mathew) would have been almost 18 years of age during the 1901 census. It's possible that he could be living with another family somewhere else or that he could have emigrated. Also missing is Samuel, Mathew's third child (James(1) was the second child).Samuel would have been nearly 16 years of age. Also missing is their cousin, Henry, who would have been 22 years of age.It is known that Henry was living with his bachelor uncles and spinster aunts (he was an illegitimate child and his mother died when he was eight) until at least early 1897.So it is believed that Henry emigrated sometime between 1897 and 1901 and may have taken Robert and Samuel with him (or they may have joined him later). There are no marriage records for any of them in all of Ireland (including North IReland). So if they married, they must have in some other country.
