John C. Bain, in The Bain Family, 1928, stated that "John and Hugh Bain landed in Wilmington, North Carolina from Scotland about 1740.
They came up the Cape Fear River and settled near the South River about seven miles east of the Bluff on the Cape Fear. Hugh Bain married a daughter of Neil Galbraith (name later changed to Culbreth) who lived in what is now Sampson County (was then Cumberland County), North Carolina, about three miles in a southeasterly direction from Graham's Bridge on the South River; also one Williams who came down from Virginia and had the year before emigrated from Wales. He married a sister of Bain's wife about the same year. The greater number of Williamses now residing in western Sampson County, and eastern Cumberland are his descendants."
When I try to add all hints that Hugh married Nancy Culbreath the dob listed rejects telling me her date of birth proceed the mother age of child baring years. Also Neil Culbreath headstone list all his children and there is no Nancy. So it had to be one of the other daughters.
