John Cullen: NZ Police Commissioner

Looking for information on the family and ancestry of John Cullen christened March 28,
1850 at Glenfarne, County Leitrim. His parents were Patrick Cullen, a farmer, and Mary (McNulty). John joined the R.I.C. in 1869, a postion which he resigned in March of 1876 in order to go to New Zealand. He had marrried to Rachel McGinley on May 6, 1874 at
Killygordon, County Donegal. They had together five sons and three daughters.

John worked his way up through the ranks and attained position of Commissioner in 1912. His wife Rachel died in 1917. John retired in 1919. He remarried in 1928 in Aukland to Ellen Margaret Hendrey. John died October 26, 1939.
