Hi Pat,
I don't know where the Cullinan's originated in Tipperary as yet. I do remember when looking at Cullinan headstones in St. Patrick's Cem. that many families, not just Cullinan, came from the same town in Tipperary. Although I didn't attach significance at the time, I'll have to go back and note the town.
Not sure on the Burke's either.
The Burke's may, possibly, have come from the Parish of Moanmore-Emly (of course, I neglected to note where I found this).
There is also a James Burke in Loughmore-Castleiny (b. Oct. 7, 1832), that had siblings John, Judy, Tom, Betty & Michael, (from photocopied Parish register,) but I don't believe this is the correct family.
Since your 2002 posting and correspondance, I've accumulated much information on the Patrick & John W. Cullinan families.
I'll create a Cullinan pdf file from the Family Tree Maker utility & e-mail it to you.
I always thought that the Burke-Cullinan connection was coincidental (ie no connection with your Burkes), but there is an oral history story that James Burke was Protestant, one of 7 brothers, and became a Catholic after marrying his wife Mary Hogan. Some of the brothers, supposedly, went to California. So, maybe... there might be some cousin connection.
James Burke's (father of Thomas F. m. to Mary A. Cullinan) parents were Tobias Burke & Elizabeth Mills. I believe he had a brother Edward who had a different mother (Ellen Dwyer). I also believe another brother was named Michael. Any Mills or Dwyers in you tree?
As you know, Patrick's parents were William Cullinan & Bridget Quinlan. Your John's parents were Patrick Cullinan and Julia Quinlan. Pretty coincidental - may be an instance of 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters.
