David,
Millice was my 2nd Gt Grand Uncle, and our first common ancestor would have been Charles. b 1787. As Millais is currently high profile in the historical drama Casualty 2007 on BBC1, perhaps it will rekindle some activity here.
Like you I have not managed to progress back further Richard. The possibility of a link back to Aisne in N. France is still there, but my last trip there didn't show any results as the easily available documentation does not go that far back. As it is only about an hour's drive for me in Belgium, I shall be taking another trip back there in the summer.
Millais' grandson, James Alexander Culpin MacKeith also an eminent forensic psychiatrist died late last year. An intriguing branch of the family.
I'll probably get round to reading your book on Stevenage. I used to stay there from time to time many years ago. At an old pub in the centre (Bull, San?), good steaks, but didn't realise the family links.
Cheers
Ian
