To Krista Weldon,
My wife is a great-granddaughter of Ada Alice Culwell born Sept 6, 1871 in TN and died Feb 21, 1968 in Smyrna, TN.She married Jesse Thomas Stroud born Jan 28, 1863 in Robertson County, TN and died Apr 20, 1938 at Laverne, Rutherford County, TN.They (and several of their children) are buried in Section O ofSpring Hill Cemetery at the corner of Gallatin Road and Briley Parkway in Madison (Nashville), TN.They were the parents of 8 children. He was previously married to Effie Green and they had 2 children.
Ada Alice Culwell Stroud is said to have been the daughter of Zachariah Culwell and Adeline Foster (I have not researched this myself, but only read that this evening from a RootsWeb.com posting by James Jackson whose e-mail address is [email protected]).
An oral family tradition states that one of Ada's grandfathers was a (Cherokee?) Indian medicine man and raised medicinal herbs in his garden, a tradition followed by Ada.
She had a brother who my father-in-law remembers as (great) "Uncle Tennie Culwell", who walked everywhere he went.Even as an old man, he could kick his leg as high as the top of a door frame, presumably the result of years of walking and good health. My father-in-law remembers both Tennie and his son, Clarence, visiting his parents' home in Nashville, TN.
Based upon your postings to genealogy.com, it appears that this same Tennie Culwell may have been your great-grandfather.I have lots of information on the descendents of Ada Culwell Stroud and would be happy to share it with you.
Do you have additional information on the Culwells (particularly the siblings and parents, grandparents, etc of Tennie and Ada) that you could share with me?I would very much appreciate any help you could give.
