I sure need help from the COLLIN COUNTY CULWELLS! The following is part of a 1927 obit written about my great grandfather in the McKinney newspaper.
William Jordan Higgins was born near Eureka Springs Arkansas March 23, 1850, being at the time of his death 77 years old. His parents were Rev. Phillip N. Higgins and MARY ELIZABETH CULWELL HIGGINS. His father had been a local Methodist preacher.
His mother was a member of the PIONEER CULWELL family that settled prior to the civil War in the Weston community
of this county in which many of their descendents are still living. When the deceased was only nine years old his parents left Arkansas for Texas. His mother sickened and died in route.
The father and his children settled in Springtown in Parker county, Texas where they lived until the close of the Civil War during which the father and two of the brothers died or were killed. The deceased and his brother and sisters then all went to their relatives in WESTON about fourteen miles northwest of McKinney.
I have very little information other than a few little details that the family told and even less on Mary Elizabeth Here is the line as I know it which isn't much.
