I am trying to trace a Thomas Caldwell, b 1785 VA, d 11 Sep 1856, Jefferson Co, KY. He married Hettie Gaines Collins, 1808, KY.
The name for his son James morphed into Culwell. His data: James Collins Culwell, b 1 Jul 1809, Jefferson Co, KY, d 12 Feb 1899, Pike Co, MO. I am the grandson of Otto Lee Culwell, who was grandson of James Collins Culwell.
I have no antecedents for Thomas Caldwell. Does anyone have anything prior on Thomas? Perhaps his name was properly Culwell?
Family tradition says the family originated in Scotland.
Any information would be appreciated.
