I am fairly certain of the line in this case, because I came from it also. Thomas A. CALDWELL was born in Maryland in 1785. He appears on the Kentucky census of 1850 at Jefferson County. He died 11 Sep 1856, Jefferson Co, KY.
He married Hettie Gaines Collins 11 Feb 1808 at Bourbon Co, KY. The children used the name 'Caldwell' and 'Culwell'. Their children were
James Collins CULWELL b 1809 KY, d 1899 Pike Co, MO
Lydia CULWELL b 1816 KY
Edward C CULWELL b 1818 KY
Sarah CULWELL b 1822 KY
Vinard CALDWELL b 1823 KY
Allen CALDWELL b 1826 KY
William D CALDWELL b 1827 KY
Richard CALDWELL b 1830 KY
Susan CALDWELL b 1837 KY
Hettie Collins died in early 1837 presumably in childbirth with Susan. Thomas Caldwell remarried to Rhatnis Woods on 5 Feb 1837, Jefferson Co, KY. They had the following children together:
Nancy CALDWELL b 1840 KY
Jane CALDWELL b 1846 KY
Vinard, Allen and William later moved to Union Co, KY near Jeremiah Collins, the brother of Hettie Gaines Collins.
Second wife Rhatnis Woods died sometime between 1846 and 1850. Thomas Caldwell appears on the 1850 census with a wife named Anne, 'married within the year'.
