Phil, this is the only Samuel Lee I have in my files. No information on him, but do have this on his ancestors. Hope this helps.

FIRST GENERATION

1. Samuel Lee CULWELL was born in Jul 1882 in Texas. He died in 1954.

SECOND GENERATION

2. Thomas Berry CULWELL was born on 19 Dec 1837 in Washington County, Arkansas. He died on 6 Jan 1907 in Erath County, Texas. Thomas was a private in Captain Alfred Johnson's Texas Spy Company, of Cavalry Unattached Texas Volunteers, Reorganized for the unexpired term of three years or the War from the first of September, 1862. Called into service by the Confederate States. He was married to Elizabeth Leah POWELL on 2 Aug 1860 in Collin County, Texas.

3. Elizabeth Leah POWELL was born on 17 Jan 1843 in Kentucky. She died on 25 Mar 1910 in Erath County, Texas.

THIRD GENERATION

4. John Wesley CULWELL was born on 2 May 1814 in North Carolina. He was buried in 1878 in Kendall Chapel Cemetery, Grayson County, Texas. He died on 7 Oct 1878 in Grayson County, Texas. He was a Preacher and Farmer in Collin County, Texas. John Culwell was Methodist minister who preached extensively in Collin, Parker, Grayson, Denton, Dallas and Fannin counties. One of the first Methodist Churches in Collin County was organized by him. According to local tradition this Methodist Church traces its origin to pioneer religious gatherings organized by the Rev. John culwell and held in the home of his brother, Andrew J. Culwell, about 1846, and to the establishment of Methodist campground meetings held at nearby Honey creek about 1848. He was married to Mrs. John W. (CULWELL).

5. Mrs. John W. (CULWELL).

6. James Walton POWELL was born on 24 Jan 1813 in Kentucky. He died on 16 Apr 1891 in Erath County, Texas. He was married to Amarilla THURMAN on 1 Feb 1839 in Marion County, Kentucky.

7. Amarilla THURMAN was born on 7 Oct 1822 in Washington County, Kentucky. She died on 8 Jun 1876.

FOURTH GENERATION

8. Thomas CALDWELL was born on 24 Oct 1773. He died on 2 Sep 1835. He was married to Elizabeth (CALDWELL) in 1798 in North Carolina.

9. Elizabeth (CALDWELL) was born in 1776 in Maryland.
