Hi. I am sending the information I have related to Minnie Curnutte of Kansas.

The Skeens came to Kansas from Lawrence County, Kentucky, in the late 1800's.

They lived for a time on a farm south of Belton, MO, then moved to a community nine miles west of Paola, Kansas known as spring Ridge.

Jim Skeens and Nancy Moore had 9 childen.
1*John - who married Minnie Curnutte. Minnie Curnutte Skeens was born Oct. 22, 1867 in Lawrence County, KY and died Dec. 29, 1928. As a little girl going to school, Minnie Curnutte was accompanied to and from school by her father because of panthers. She attended a country school in the hills in Lawrence County, KY. When John & Minnie were married, John could not read. Minnie taught him to sign his name and to read. After learning to read, he used to stay up until two or three AM reading books of all kinds.

***John and Minnie were married in 1885.*** They had 10 childen:
1)Nancy - born Oct. 28, 1888, married John Bucklew. They had 4 children *Floyd, *Mary,*Minnie, *Ruth.
2)Mame - born in 1890, married Ernest McKain and had 7 Children: *Ethel, *Lonnie, *Ralph, *Wilbur, *Paul, *Fern and *Nadine.
3)Bill - Born Jan 1, 1892. Married Hazel Ricketts and had 9 children. *Helen, *Marie, *Margaret, *Virginia, *William, *Donald, *Milton, *Francis & *Eugene(Died in Infancy).
4)Lon Morris - born Jan. 14, 1894 and married Alta Conine and had 7 children. *John, Lon, Jr. William, Nellie, Darrel, Roger and Jack Clayton who died in infancy.
5)John - Born March 27, 1898. Married Iva Clark and had 5 Children: *Charles, *Donna June, *Minnie Jean, *Betty Jane and *Joseph.
6)Inez - born May 20, 1896. Married Joe McCarthy and had no children.
7)Emma - Born July 17, 1901. Married Lloyd Hawley and had 4 Children: *Calvin, *Inez, Wanda Lou and *Howard.
8)Calvin - born July 19, 1906. Married Blance Bivens and had 3 children: *Calvin , *Gene and *Elvin.
9)Jimmie - birthdate unknown. Died very young.
10) Lily - birthdate unknown. Died very young.

2*Jim - Married Lola? and had 1 son: Robert.

3*Mont - Married ?. They had 6 Children:*Pearl,*Etta, *Jim, *Mont, Jr.,*Harry, *Allen, *James(Known as Jim Skeens born August 11, 1872 and died Sept. 19, 1899 of Typhoid Fever. (Nancy Skeens (his grandma also died in Oct. 9 of 1899 with Typhoid Fever. They are both burried in the Bryant cemetary west of Belton, MO

4*Millard - Never married

5*Bill - Married Mattie McGraw. They raised Doyle and Darrel Koontz whose father(Name unknown). *Darrel Koontz lived in Lawrence, KS and Doyle lived at Garnett, KS.

6*Hiram - Had a daughter Fanny who lived in Louisville, KY

7*Lena - who married Jim Crabtree and had 2 sons, Albert & Benny and 2 daughters, Katie and Nan. *Katie Crabtree married Walter Barrett and lived around Osawatomie, KS

8*Liz - who married Jim Curnutte and lived on a farm near Amsterdam MO. Liz and Jim had 3 children. *Bayrd,*Alamo, and *Isabell. Bayrd married Bernadine Green and they had 2 sons *Donald and *Jim. **Alamo

9*Georgia - who married Dan Malson and lived in Oklahoma.
This information has been provided to me over the years by family members. I am also Minnie Cunutte and John Skeens great granddaughter. My grandparents were Lon and Alta Skeens. My father (their son) is Darrel Skeens. Please let me know who your grandparents are. Thanks.
