On the net I found a BJ Roche who said he called the Vermont State Librarian and was told that the peak is named for General R. D. Cutts, who was in charge of surveying Vermont's mountains for the U.S. Coast and Geodesic Survey. He also mentioned a book "called something like Place Names of Vermont--you can find it on the web." I thought I found a website yesterday, but got lost seeking it today. Somehow I got somewhat lost yesterday too, but ended up finding Cutts Cemetery in Hartland, VT south of Lebanon. Not all is bad. I'm going to NEng next week and just might check out the cemetery.
Best of luck, Anna
