Good morning,
That is interesting about the HAM/HAMM FAMILY, since there is a reference to a member of the HAM FAMILY in Jack's book. I will copy what is written in Jack's book on the MENEES & MENZEES. It is as follows:

1. In re MENEES:
Page 325 - MENEES, ELIZA, daughter of JOHN MENEES (This could also be Maness, as we had families by the name of MANESS in Richmond Co., NC, where I grew up, but I haven't checked to see if they lived in Anson Co., as all of my DABBS family did before moving to the east side of the Great PeeDee River.) and ELIZABETH COFFEE. Married to JOHN RANDOLPH DABBS, Sr., on 31 March 1832 by James Whitsitt. (Marriage Records of Davidson County, Tennessee, 1952.)
2. In re MENZEES:
Page 325 - MENZEES, MRS. MARY D. HAM, married JOSEPJ W. (or M.?)DABBS, on 15 August 1842. (Marriage Records of Davidson County, Tennessee, COL. II, page 94)

NOTE: It would seem to me that these names are the same. The Scottish Clan spelling for this name is "MENZIES". They have a beautiful tartan plaid.

In one of my books on Scottish families, I found the following:

DIRECTORY OF SCOTS IN THE CAROLINAS, 1680 - 1830, by David Dobson (He has written a ton of books on the Scots who came to America.).

Page 235 -
MENZIES, JOHN
Born in Scotland during 1744.
Emigrated to Virginia c1772, Baptist.
Died in Rockingham Co., NC, in March 1819.
(RALEIGH REGISTER, 2.4.1819)
(NOTE: A number of families from the area of Rockingham Co., came south to Richmond and Anson Counties.)
MENZIES,MARY
25. lADY
Emigrated from Greenock, Renfrewshire, to NC on the AJAX, MASTER - R. CUNNINGHAM in May 1775.
(Public Record Office, London/T47,12)
(NOTE: CUNNINGHAM is another family connected to the DABBS.)

In re DABBS from Jack's book:

JOHN RANDOLPH DABBS, Sr., born 1 (13?) April 1803 in Cornwall Parish, Charlotte Co., Virginia. Died 5 November 1846. Buried in Nashville City Cemetery (also shown as buried in DABBS home place, DABBS AVENUE, Nashville). Son of REV. RICHARD DABBS and ELIZABETH MITCHELL. Married ELIZA MENEES 29 (31?) March 1831 (1832? - See IGI [LDS Records] microfiche, Tennessee, I-17. [NOTE: I have found errors in the Morman records. I wonder if they research & document what is sent to them.] in Nashville by REV. JAMES WHITSETT. Children:
1. ELLEN DABBS
2. JOHN RANDOLPH DABBS, Jr.
3. ELIZABETH DABBS
4. MARY DABBS
5. WILLIAM DABBS
6. JAMES K. POLK DABBS

JOHN RANDOLPH DABBS, Jr., born 27 August 1835 in Nashville, Tennessee. Son of JOHN RANDOLPH DABBS, Sr. and ELIZA MENEES. Married to ANNIE WILLIE SHUMATE, 18 April 1882 by L. C. BRYAN, MG, [Marriage Records of Davidson County, Tennessee, BOOK 7, p. 244]
Witnesses:
WILLIAM DABBS, T. S. KING, and G. S. STANFIELD.
Chldren:
1. JOHN WILSON THOMAS DABBS
2. LESLIE MENEES DABBS.

Served as Private in C Company 6th Cavalry, C.S.A. [CDC (CARA DABBS CLARK) shows also service in Company B, 22nd Tennessee [Bartel's] [Infantry] C.S.A.) Enlisted 15 June 1861 in Nashville by SCudder. Paid to 31 August 1862. Taken prisoner 12 December 1862 at Okolona on the M&ORR area near Oxford, Mississippi. Reported POW 23 December 1862. Signed parole 21 December. [Tennessee State Archives, Confederate Service Records]

NOTE: There are a number of the above noted names that are found in old Anson County, and Richmond County (cut from Anson). The ones that I know are:

RANDOLPH (There is a RANDOLPH STREET in Rockingham.),
MITCHELL, MENES (MENEES), BRYAN, STANFIELD/STANFILL, POLK, SHUMATE/SHUMAK, WILSON, THOMAS (As surname).

I hope all of this will be of help to you.

Best wishes with your research,

Bobbie Williamson-Dabbs Ledbetter
