Yes, May Ham, daughter of Samuel Ham, sister of Stephen H Ham, did marry Johnathan Menees. She had a daughter from that union, Minerva. Then she married Joseph W Dabbs, son of Rev Richard Dabbs. I have not really delved deep in the Hams as of yet. I don't know which family of Menees she married into. But her second marriage was to Joseph W Dabbs, brother to my gr-gr-grandfather(Thomas C Dabbs). I am wondering if Mary may have met Joseph through his other brother, John R Dabbs and wife Eliza. Maybe Eliza and Jonathan were brother and sister, and when Johnathan died they were introduced. But like I said I have not really begun researching down that line as of yet. You will find Joseph W Dabbs and wife Mary in the 1850 Davidson Co, TN Census. The children living with them are: Lucy A 7 their child Eliza J 3 their child Minerva Menees 15 Mary's daughter Richard C Dabbs 14 Joseph's nephew-Thomas C Dabbs's son) Ann P Dabbs age 12 Joseph's niece-Thomas C Dabb's daughter) Richard Dabbs above is my great-grandfather and he married Louise F Ham, niece of Mary Ham Menees Dabbs. I have info on Louisa Ham's family, her siblings, her grandfather, and some knowledge of her gr-grandparents Stephen and Mildred Rucker Ham of VA. My line is the lost line! No one was researching this son of Rev Richard Dabbs and his line just disappeared. Until I found out that our last name was changed from Dabbs to Crutcher no one could trace our line back because everyone was looking for the name Crutcher and we were Dabbs. Family oral history was passed down that we were not really Crutchers, but no one had discovered what our name really was. I just decided to start the journey and I hit pay dirt! I have traced down our ancestors through much digging! Thomas C Dabbs, son of Rev Richard Dabbs, was not on the message boards until I began looking for my family in 2001. I found my connection to him and then began gathering factual data to prove that my line went back to him. He died in 1839 after the birth of his two children Richard C and Ann P Dabbs . These two children's mother, Isabela Burgess, remarried a Boyd and they then lived until 1850 in the household of their step-dad Milton B Boyd. Their mother died sometime after her last child, Lock Boyd's birth @1844 and 1850 Madison Co TN Census. Joseph W Dabbs then took his brother's orphan children into his and Mary's house. In Jack Dabbs' book he has Richard and Ann as the children of Joseph W Dabbs, but they were his nephew and niece. He has Ann listed under Thomas C Dabbs as his daughter, but does not have Richard C. listed as his son. I have found that Ann P Dabbs married Samuel R Ham. Some books have his name as Samuel R (SR) Hain, but that mistake was made by transcribers seeing the word Hain instead of Ham, I guess. And it just happens that Richard and Ann Dabbs, brother and sister, married Louisa F and Samuel R Ham, brother and sister. Through luck my husband was just looking in a book at our local library on Texas tidbits. The first page (and I mean page number 1,yes) listed the death of Thomas C Dabbs, October 16, 1839, near Houston. In this Texas newspaper it showed his home town of Nashville. I went back to those Nashville papers and found his obit. His obit listed his age as 36 years. So his birth was around 1802/03 which would put him older than John R Dabbs. I also found Joseph W Dabbs obit. I did not have Jack's info about Thomas and it could have made by searching a little easier. He has Thomas C Dabbs listed. I could go on and on, but I think I need to stop before I end up writing a book! :) Dale Notify Administrator about this message?
