“The Dabbs Family Genealogy List”, p. 11, compiled by Jack Autrey Dabbs, 1986, states that JOSEPH DABBS deeded 250 acres of land on Willis Creek to CHARLES LEE in 1741. ANN LEE, his wife was alive in 1788 because CHARLES LEE in his will of 1788 specified that she should have 200 acres of land on his plantations and five slaves, namely Sam, Sammy, Rachel, Knnar?, and Jimmy. He also gave her six other slaves, Hagar, Joday, Harry, Hannah, Milly and Jack. CORRECTION: Mr. Autrey has Anne Dabbs, wife of CHARLES LEE, confused with Anne Noel, wife of JOSEPH LEE. 1. CHARLES LEE wrote his will in 1793. He named wife Anne. 2. JOSEPH LEE, son of CHARLES LEE wrote his will in 1788 and wrote the following: (See Cumberland Co. Will Book 1, p. 484 10/25/1790) ……wife: ANN LEE - lend plantation formerly held by William Lee - 150 acres plus 50 acres from other lands and my still. ……Lend negroes, Hagar, Juday, Harry, Neptune, Merry, Jack, Sam, Sawney, Rachell, Hannah, Jinny. CONCLUSION: 1. Joseph DABBS did give 240 acres of land on Willis Creek to brother in law CHARLES LEE and sister Anne. 2. The LWT of JOSEPH LEE leaves no doubt as to what his wife Ann received. There is a small difference in the names of the slaves but that is how I interpreted the writing at the time I reviewed the Will. The acreage that Ann received was 200 acres. 3. The LWT of CHARLES was written in 1793 and proved in 1799 in Cumberland Co., VA. Both wives were alive in 1788. 4. There was only one CHARLES LEE in Cumberland Co., VA at that time and he was married to Ann DABBS. Notify Administrator about this message?
