Hello Frances:
I am sorry if I am incorrect about the name "FRANCES".I have Jack Autrey Dabbs' book. There is mention of FANNIE and a FRANCES, who were both listed as daughters of DAVID SYDNEY & ELIZA (ELIZABETH) (WEBB) DABBS.FANNIE is shown on page 73 as the following:
"FANNIE E. DABBS, born 23 August 1860.Daughter of DAVID SYDNEY DABBS and ELIZA WEBB.Married CHARLES JARMAN of Polkton, North Carolina.Daughter FLOY JARMAN married ...... SMITH.Granddaughter:CATHERINE SMITH married .... PERKINS of Polkton, , North Carolina.Relatedto a former governor of Texas?"
On page 75:"FRANCES DABBS, born 1864.Daughter of DAVID SYDNEY DABBS and ELIZA WEBB.Married ..... HILDRITH."
This is the source for my FANNIE/FRANCES.Every Fannie/Fanny that I have known used either one as a nickname for Frances.David & Eliza did not have two children with that name. Also, did FANNIE/FRANCES marry two times?I have all twelve of the Anson County books, and there are a number of HILDRITH/HILDRETHS that show up in them. This is a riddle for me.Can you make any sense of the above?
I have not had time to go through all of the books yet.I did notice a lot of "FRANCIS HILDRITHS".Even though FRANCIS is the spelling for males; I have seen a number of females spelled with an "I".I know with my own name, there are a number of times I get correspondence to BOBBY.The funniest mail we ever received was to Mr. & Mrs. LEO BETTER.Another thing about the spelling of names:My greatuncle, HENRY HARRISON DABBS (born 1889, son of WILLIAM HENRY & SUSAN ELLEN (LILES) DABBS), that I called "Daddy", told me that some of the early records spelled his name with an "O".
I hope we can settle this mix-up.Also, I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
