In Reply to: Lela/Lelia (?) DABNEY m: Edwin W. HIGHSMITH b:abt 1845 TX by Sheryl Williams of 945

Edwin W. HIGHSMITH, son of Samuel HIGHSMITH and Teresa WILLIAMS, was born 1845. [He married Lela (?) DABNEY 4 Mar 1863.]

**BASED ON THE FOLLOWING POSTS IT WOULD APPEAR THAT LELA DABNEY 'DID NOT' MARRY EDWIN W. HIGHSMITH.**

Date: August 08, 2004

Searching for the Dabney relatives of Lelia Addie Dabney born 1842 in Mississippi and married Willliam Andrew Highsmith. She moved and died in Bastrop, Tx in 1918. However just found new information that Her parents were James and Alibeth Dabney and Lelia Was born in Noxubee Co, MS. We suspect that she is part of the extended famiy of the Viginia Dabneys.

Also Thomas Gregory Dabney daughter was named Lelia and was born in 1862 in Burleigh, MS. James Daney's children were Lelia, Thomas W, Sophia(another Family Name), Emmerline, Benjamin, Ida, Thomas S and Rosalie.

Corection: Lelia A. Dabney was born in Noxubee County Mississippi. This was on her Civil War pension request.I don't think Burleigh is in this county; but in Hinds County.

Phillip Augustine Lee Dabney (A lawyer and judge in Raymond, MS, and brother of Thomas Smith Gregory Dabney) had a daughter Lelia. Lelia was from his 2nd wife Elizabeth O. Smith. This may be the Lelia you are looking for. You can read "WAR TIMES: Recollections of Raymond Eye witness account of the Battle of Raymond, Letita Dabney" by Rebecca Blackwell Drake at
http://battleofraymond.org/history/dabney.htm or http://www.raymondms.com/history/dabney.htm.

Lelia was Letita's sister, and is spoken of in this accout. Make sure you also look at "Memorials of a Southern Planter" by Susan Dabney Smedes, at http://docsouth.unc.edu/smedes/menu.html.
