Could DORKAS be a mispelling of DACUS (in VA/SC)?
My 5th great grandmother's name is (supposedly) Jemima DORKAS and she married Josiah SMITH who was born 1728-29 in Surry Co, VA & died 9 October 1818 in York Co, SC.Jemima was his 2nd wife; his 1st was Elizabeth COLLIER.Josiah's last four children presumably were Jemima's, including my 4th great grandfather, Rodah SMITH.I have never found any DORKAS information and the only time I've seen DORKAS as a surname was on a television documentary about train travel in Russia -- there was a sign for some business posted in one of the railway depots and the name was DORKAS.I have no information on Jemima except her name, supposedly DORKAS, but I'm wondering if that was a misunderstanding or misspelling.Any ideas, information or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.Happy to share information if I have anything of help or interest to anyone.
