My mothers maiden name is Daffern, her father was a William Henry Daffern (known as Harry. He married a Lilian Evans and had 3 daughters including my mother - Olga Irene, and Edith Winifred and Catherine Lilian. Winifred may have come form one of the grandmothers names.
We believe that the great grandfather was called Harry Daffern (is it possible that like grandad being called Harry when his first name was William that this could be Joseph Henry?)My Aunt says that her grandparents used to live at the first house at the top of the lane near the coffee shop in Well Lane, Wednesfield.
Grandad Daffern had a brother Thomas who married someone called Minnie, and sisters Gladys, Polly,Ethel,Emily, and Edith (who married a Cawthorn. My aunt says that she had a memory that her grandads wife (gt gran) may have been married before because she remebers some of their children being called Hickman.
Grandad was a boiler man at Bellinghams sweet factory at Cleveland Street in Wolverhampton and took over the job from HIS dad - Harry.
Grandad told my Aunt that the name Daffern was french, which is interesting because I have spoken to someone else who cannot find records of Dafferns in this country (whatever the spelling) before the 17th century and he thought that it may de a corruption of the name Dauphin and that it was from the Huguenots fleeing France under the reformation.

Will be interetseted in hearing whether any of this ties up at all.
