Hi Judy,

Thanks for the reference info. Earlier this fall I went out to Bird Island to visit many graves, which is near New Ulm and Fairfax and also the place where I knew my grandfather was raised. There in the same cemetary where Carl August Dahlgren is buried, is a plot nearer the front of the cemetary, where Otto and Alice(iirc) are buried. My educted guess is that Edwin emigrated 2 years earlier with his wife to the Fairfax MN area, then returned to Sweden to help bring over his father and brother's family. I believe Carl August's first wife died young, and he remarried a much younger woman (possibly his sons nanny). My grandfather recalled to me in stories that his grandfather was a sailor, and quite a character.

The Dahlgren family that decended from Carl Augusts second wife remained in the Hector, Bird Island area and became very, very successful turkey farmers.
