This is all very interesting. I have been named Dahlgren for the 47 years of my life and just this week found a meaning to the name. Green Valley!
My great grandfather came the the United states from Dalsland as John August Carlson. sometime after he passed thru ellis island he changed his name to Dahlgren. I never knew it until I was in my 30's and never knew why. Now I suspect it was to either show where he came from or to indicate a family he had worked for.

Any insight to the name change would be appreciated.
