John J. Dahm, Evanston, Ill., beaten by burglar, 1907

A burglar who attacked John J. Dahm, a general contractor, in the basement of his home in Evanston, beat him into unconsciousness, tied him to a post, robbed him of $800 and then cut the telephone wires. Before assaulting Dahm, the robber ransacked the house and purloined silverware and small articles of jewelry valued at $100. The burglar entered during the absence of Mrs. Dahm and her two children.
