Dear Sue,
Thanks for your quick response.I have communicated in depth with my cousins, Robert and Daniele. We have exchanged info and photographs.I believe that they now know the relationship of Elbert Dail to their ancestors. I have lots of info about the circumstances of the marriage between Elbert and Mary E. Turnage. (Her family thought he was not good enough - apparently they had some wealth and standing, but he proved them wrong by becoming a properous plantation owner),I haven't gone back on her side, but I will eventually. Elias Exum Dail, Elbert's son and my g.grandfather's brother, was indeed married before his marriage to Allie McLawhorn. His first wife was Margaret Summerell and they had 2 daughters, Bertha and Emma.I have not researched them either.
If you have any info on them, I would appreciate it.
I suspect that the "Turner" part of the name was included because somewhere along the line her last name of Turnage was not known and they thought it was Turner. At any rate, this detective work is fun - it's nice meeting all my relatives! All us Dails from Pitt/Green county are cousins somehow!I have a separate line from Theophilus (1825)
Your cousin,
Linda
