ADDENDA TO THE DAINS FAMILY RECORD

Note: - The following addition to the record of "Some Descendants of Abraham Dain' and Sarah Peake" [see issues of March - April 1945 through November - December 19450 was compiled by Frank Burnett Dains of Lawrence, Kansas. It completes one line of descendants of Oxenbridge [3] Dains and adds some data to the earlier generations. Wherever the record duplicates that already published in this magazine it has been omitted here.
First Generation
The Widow of Abraham Dains [Daynes, sic], Sarah Peake Dains [Daynes, sic] married Micah Rood in 1691, and had three children: Mary, Micah and Joseph Rood.
Second Generation
JOANNA [JOHANNA] Dains [2] daughter of Abraham [1] was born February 2, 1671/2 in New London, Connecticut; died ---; married David Palnette, April 30, 1696 (Vital Records, Stonington. [Vermont]] page 16, "Some Descendants of Abraham Dain' and Sarah Peake".
"Mrs. Sabria Palmer Lamb, dau of Nancy Dains Palmer & Wm. Palmer; 14555 Woodmont Road, Detroit, Michigan." = is hand written on the copy I have - page one of "Some Descendants of Abraham Dain' and Sarah Peake". There follows on page one:
First Generation
Abraham Dains or Daynes. The geneology of this line of the writer's family begins with the marriage of Abraham Dains', or Daynes, and Sarah Peake at Canterbury, New London on December 27, 1671. The first date given in Calkins'"History of New Londen" in connection with Abraham Dains is 1662. A further reference has the date of 1664. It seems court orders were published in that year prohibiting the use of "cardes and shufflebords" and warning the inhabitants "not to entertaine strange young men." Transient residents who were not grantees and householders, were the persons affected by this order and it aroiused them to the necessity of applying for permission to remain. Amongthe roll of applicants we find the name "Abraham Daynes." "All other sojourners not mentioned carrying themselves well were allowed to live in the towne, else lyable upon warning to begone". It would seem that Abraham Dains was a newcomer in the town. A letter from the Connecticut State Library at Hartford states that Abraham Daynes of New London, 1664, is supposed to have come from Casco, Maine.
William Pooles' residence is New London, west of the town plat on the p;ath leading to Fog-Plain. The marriage of his daughter Sarah to Abraham Daynes in recorded in New London, as are also the births of some of his children. Other births are recorded in Norwich. The next several generations of the family seem to have lived in the region of the towns of Norwich, Canterbury, Plainfield, and washington in the counties of New London, and Windham, Connecticutt. Abraham died before 1691, for his widow Sarah married Micah Rood, January 15, 1691.
