Bruce;

I looked up the burials, marriages and births in the Spofforth/Wetherby records back to the 1700's, but I have marriages only up until the 1820's and deaths up until 1895 only. There are a number of births attributed to John and Charlotte Dalby at Spofforth which certainly all seem to fit. They are (all in Spofforth):

Thomas (bapt. March 24, 1847), son of John & Charlotte Dalby (John is listed as a farmer in Hampsthwaite),
Sarah (bapt. Dec. 17, 1848), daughter of John & Charlotte Dalby( John is listed as a farmer in Spofforth),
Peter (bapt. Feb. 9, 1851), son of John & Charlotte Dalby (John is listed as a farmer in Spofforth),
William (bapt. Oct. 25, 1852), son of John & Charlotte Dalby ( John is listed as a butcher in Spofforth),
John (bapt. Aug. 16, 1859), son of John & Charlotte Dalby (John is listed as a farmer in Spofforth)
Anne (bapt. May 30, 1861), daughter of John & Charlotte Dalby (John is listed as a farmer in Spofforth)

Presuming they got married sometime in 1845 or 1846, this would certainly fit with your Spofforth John who was 61 in the 1881 Census. As Charlotte Dalby is not shown as having been buried prior to 1895 and John is the last entry I have for a burial at Spofforth in December of 1895, I would presume that she died later than 1895.

Are any of these 6 children your ancestors?
