I'd appreciate any help with this search! I'm looking for my great-grandmother, Hattie E. (Ellen?) Daley who married James Colin Murray on September 2, 1904. They were probably married in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
According to my family, Hattie and her sisters, Sarah, Louise, and Mary, came from Argyll County in Nova Scotia and emigrated to the US, where they worked as house-keepers. James and his brothers, George and David, were from Digby County, Nova Scotia, and emigrated to Gloucester to work as fishermen in the Gloucester fishing fleet. The Murray boys met the Daley girls here in the US. James married Hattie and David married Mary. James died in 1943, and Hattie died in 1946.
Several of my family members have tried to track down vital records for James and Hattie from Canada with no luck. Supposedly there was a fire in the place where the Digby County records were kept, but I'm not sure about Argyll. No one is sure if they were born here or overseas. Family tradition says that James might have been born in Scotland and come over to Nova Scotia as a very young boy.
Any help is appreciated! Many thanks!
