Sister (James Catherine) Daley, O.P.
ADRIAN — Sister Mary Catherine Daley, formerly known as Sister James Catherine Daley, died on Feb. 16, 2008, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 85 years of age and in the 68th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister was born in Chicago, Ill., to James and Catherine (O’Keefe) Daley. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, Mich.
Sister spent 36 years ministering in education in Detroit, East Lansing, Ypsilanti, St. Clair, St. Clair Shores and Harper Woods, Mich. She was in Pastoral Ministry for 14 years in Harper Woods, Roseville and Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Sister was Principal at Our Lady of Sorrows School in Detroit from 1961 to 1967. She was Assistant Director of the Penafort House in Grosse Pointe Farms from 1986 to 1988. Sister volunteered for 10 years in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., and in 2002 became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich.
Sister is survived by two brothers, John Daley of Chicago Heights, Ill., and Robert Daley of Murrieta, Calif. She was preceded in death by three cousins, Sister Eleanore Therese Daly, Sister Marie Brendan Stanton and Sister Agnes Edward McGill, all Adrian Dominican Sisters.
Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in the Gathering Space of St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
