John Daley - Sheffield MASS to Lorain Co. OHIO

I am looking for the family of JOHN DALEY, born in Sheffield, Berkshire Co., Mass. I have two possible birth years: 1817 & 1822. The LDS site shows his death date as 22 Dec 1893 in Elyria, Lorain Co., Ohio. His wife's name was LYDIA AUSTIN b. 13 Sep 1819 in Sheffield, daughter of JAMES & TAMAR (CHAPIN) AUSTIN, d. 11 Dec 1902 in Lorain Co. as well. I have a wedding date for JOHN & LYDIA: 13 Nov 1855. I know they had more than one child, but my direct lineage is from their son, CHARLES LEWIS DALEY (1857-1929), who is my GGgrandfather.
My grandmother mentioned that JOHN might have fought in the Civil War, and that he might have had a different spelling of DALEY. I have looked at every possible spelling variation with no luck - the only documentation I have found is the 1870 Census <Sheffield Twp., Lorain Co.> that shows JOHN was a farmhand and that he was from New York (?).
I am fairly new at this and would appreciate any help on finding this family branch. I can be reached at

Many thanks,
Amanda Mason-Thomas
