Hi Laura,
Happy New Year to you.
I have at last found my great grandmother Elizabeth Dalgarno, the daughter of Alexr. DALGARNO & Lydia JOYNER.
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Corbet Dalgarno’s birth cert. Lizzie was born. Illeg. ,as I suspected, as Elizabeth Corbet Joyner, on 29 Jan 1882. Mothers name Lydia Abbot Joyner(dom.serv.). No father is mentioned here, and Lizzie is born at “Park, Lonmay”.(although the birth is not registered until 4 Apr of that year.)
I had a slight suspicion that Alex Dalgarno might not be the father, worked out that mum Lydia must have fallen pregnant around April 1881. I looked up Lydia on the census and she turned up in Lonmay-in the same dwelling as Alex. Dalgarno! I read somewhere that the 1881 census was as of April 4th 1881-so I think it is likely that Alex. Dalgarno is Lizzies father after all....but I’m still wondering why the “Corbet” name was chosen.
I can also almost confirm now that ALEXANDER DALGARNO, Lizzie’s father, was born around 1840 as I have found him on the Old Deer 1841 Census dwelling at ‘Dunshillock’ as a 1 year old. (Dunshillock is where John Dalgarno later died in 1845).
> JOHN DALGARNO d.22 Dec 1845@ Dunshillock, Old Deer, Aberdeenshire does anyone have his death certificate?
I still have no birth entry for Alex but sure will probably find one soon.

Best regards,

Julia Thompson
