Hi there,
we are related actually as my fathers uncle is your grandfather. My Father lives in Elgin in Moray shire and I met your grandfather only a few times - usually at family funerals I am afraid.
My fathers sister looked into the origins of the name and found that it came from Dumfries shire, some of these moved to Aberdeen and in the 13th century Dalgarno's are recorded in Aberdeen. Further back still the name could have come from a French family called Dalgarnock
