Dear Kingsley,
I may have some information that may be relevant to you in your search. My fathers family came from Gorebridge and there are still a number of Dalgleish,s living in the village. The focus of employment at the time your relatives left was the Lady Victoria Colliery in nearby Newtongrange. This village now holds the Scottish Mining Museum and you may be able to trace information through there records as that is also the Scottish area Records Office/Depository for the now defunct coal board.
