Dall Cemetery, Sandy Point Rd, Shelburne,NS,CANADA

About 8-9 km (5-6+ mi) outside of Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada, is the very small DALL CEMETERY, overlooking the magnificent and huge entrance to Shelburne Harbour. Across from the cemetery is McNutt Island, which 'stands guards' on one of the world's greatest natural (and ice-free) harbours.

The interesting thing about the Dall Cemetery is that there are very few DALL names on the headstones. It seems to stem from the fact that a John Dall married a local lady named Abigail GOODICK.

Other names in this burial ground are: Anderson, Boudreau (only 1 ?), Bower, Buchanan, Bush, Butler, Crocheron (only 1 ?), Crowell, Downie, Duncan, Faye, Hallett, Harris, Hart, Hemeon, Holmes, Locke, Long, McClure, Nickerson, Pierce, Rose, Thorburn, and Townsend (may have missed a few).

One tombstone of note - George W. Bush (1884-1966) and wife Mary (1894-1962). Since the current President of the USA and his mother Barbara have PIERCE connections with NS, it could be that 'this George Bush' has a family tie somewhere.

Except for Boudreau and Crocheron, the other names are largely traditional ones for this part of NS.

For some reason I think this DALL was the English family and not the Danish DAHL. I think they settled here sometime between 1800-1840. Can someone posting here tell us more about the DALL connections to Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, Canada ?
