I am tracing my roots via grandmother, Bessie Dall, who was the daughter of JOHN ELIJAH DALL and EMMA ELIZA GOODICK.

The ancestors of this DALL FAMILY immigrated from New England to Canada during the American Revolution. General George Washington ordered the Continental Army to surround Boston, so the British General Gage retreated by sea with the British forces. I understand that a thousand colonist who were loyal to the Crown sailed with the British forces to Nova Scotia. One family that accompanied the retreating British was DALL who settled in Shelburne, Nova Scotia.

I am searching for ancestors of Bessie Dall, my grandmother. Her father is JOHN ELIJAH DALL Birth: Dec 30, 1849 - Death: drowned at sea 1902. DO ANY OF YOU KNOW IF THERE IS EVIDENCE OF HIM BEING MEMORIALIZED IN ONE OF THOSE CEMETERIES OUTSIDE OF SHELBURNE, NOVA SCOTIA?

Bessie's mother is EMMA ELIZA GOODICK Birth: Apr 8, 1855 - Death: 1895 in childbirth. One of you reference Eliza Goodick in your family and I'm wondering if perhaps that was Emma Eliza Goodick's mother. Do you see the puzzel pieces fitting? In the union of John and Emma Dall were born:
*Pienetta Dall (Burns/Shaw) Dec 19, 1873
*Ada Dall (Richardson) Nov 10, 1875
*Robert Dall May 16, 1879
Birth: Shelburne, Nova Scotia December 28, 1881
Death: Fort McPherson, GA November 1, 1958
*Ritchie Dall Mar 7, 1886

Bessie Dall immigrated to the USA and resided with her sister and brother-in-law:
1900 census Washington D.C.
BURNS, JEREMIAH head of household 37 B: 4/1863 Canada
, Nettie M wife 26 B: 12/1873 Canada
, Paul S son 2 B: 2/1989 DC
, Frederick J son 8/12 B: 10/1899 DC
DALL, BESSIE J 18 sister-in-law B: 12/1881 Canada

Bessie Dall received her naturalization papers in Superior Court of District of Columbia, August 13, 1906 to become a US citizen. BESSIE married Lawrence Vernon Payne-Bateman Sr. in June 1907 and from that union were born Elizabeth DALL Bateman May 5, 1908, and my father, Lawrence Vernon Bateman Jr., Jan 25, 1912.

Should you have additional information, particularly on JOHN ELIJAH DALL and EMMA ELIZA GOODICK, their parents and ancestors, I would appreciate your contacting me. Do you think you may be a cousin out there? Would love to hear from you. Thank you.

Best regards,

Lawrence Vernon Bateman III, SC USA
