My research on this family takes it back to at least 1776 in western New Jersey. Other Dalley and Dally families from that area trace to New Amsterdam in the late 1600s. Documentation to prove the link between this particular line and those proven to be in New Amsterdam has not been found. One published theory is that the family were originally French Huguenots from an area near Belgium that the Romans called Alliacum.
