More DNA results (and partial results) are in for the Dameron/Damrons! http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Damron/
It has come to my attention that there is a Jarrell line out there that are genetically Dam(e)rons. They are the descendants of Lazarus Dameron and Jane Jarrell. I don't recall off the top of my head when this took place, but since they are genetically Dam(e)rons and family story had it that they are Dam(e)rons, they will be accepted into the project.
I don't have enough people yet to tease apart the lines (the sons of Lawrence Dameron, the immigrant), but there are some interesting mutations.
Mutations are where you see a different number from everyone else. That is good, as it is what will allow me to split up the lines. Red markers are where mutations are more likely to occur. The new results have people having mutations at the slow markers, where they are less likely to occur. This is just as good. It will be nice when Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) gets the color coding working again, as it will be much easier to see where the mutations are. (coming around late June).
To make this (or any) DNA project successful, I need more participants from all sons of Lawrence. The more I get, then the more apparent it will be where the mutation is and then I will be able to split the families apart. The Dameron-Damron Family Association supports the DNA project and will give $50 off of a 37 or 67 marker DNA test to current members (through Feb. 29). If you are not a current member and would like to join (you get a nice newsletter twice a year), they will give you a free membership to the family association if you test. If FTDNA offers any specials, I will be sure to let the list know.
To take the DNA test (for the Dam(e)ron DNA project) you need to be a male with the surname Dameron, Damron (or Jarrell and its variants). If you don't have the surname Dam(e)ron or are not a male, you will need to find a male Dam(e)ron cousin to take the test for you (the same goes if you are from that Jarrell line).
Feel free to email me with any questions. I'm more than happy to help.
