In 2006, I posted a correction, on this FORUM, regarding a James Owl in an Albemarle Co. Road Record. I still run across internet postings which indicate few people, if any, accessed it. Here it is again.

The James Owl record in Albemarle Co., Va was from p 5 of "Deed Abstracts of Albemarle Co., Va 1758-1761" by Sparacio.

The deed book record was given as pp 17-18; James Owl, James Nevil, and Stephen Garrott were witnesses to a land transfer from James Gates to Gideon Thomas dated 9 Mar, 1758. The 400 acres was on both sides of a branch of Waltons Fork called Arthurs Creek. Boundary owners mentioned were William Nowlin and William Chambers.

The County Road Order record was of a William Olle.
p16 of "Albemarle County Road Orders 1744-1748" by Pawlett;

"10 March 1747 O.S., p 345
Matthew Ayres Patrick Obryan and William Olle are Ordered to be Added to the Gang from Glovers Road to Slate River Wm. Allen Overseer."

The original county records should be looked at to see if the names were really Owl and Olle. As Ken Dyer pointed out, there are several names that are homophones for Owl.
