An example of the spelling problems associated with the name OWL can be found in records of the Second Germanna Colony.

A Christopher Uhl has various spellings of his surname; Yowell and Owell. See

http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Germanna_Colony

A James Yowell/Owl married a Mary Lederer. See

http://www.genelea.net/germanna_notes/1ccc.htm

I'm sure folks can find several other examples of spelling variations for Owl.

The name Aggie Owl, allegedly Moses Damron's wife, does not necessarily indicate American Indian origins.
