As I write this, I am reviewing two handwritten wills.
(1) Will of JOHN DANIELL, NEW HANOVER,NC.
Dated December 23, 1763. Witnessed by John Gibbes, John & Hanah Robinson.
Mentions: My loving wife, Sarah Daniell, Marmaduke Daniell - regarding lot formerly owned by same. My children: John, Robert, Mary, William, George, & Stephen - whom he calls Stephen Bedon on same page of will.
Mentions Robert Potter, son of Miles Potter and Mary Tharp - "that now live with me" - provides for education, etc.
He appoints his loving wife, Sarah, with his sons John, Robert, and William Daniell to be executors, etc.
(This has to be the will of John Daniell, son of Gov. Robert Daniell & Martha Wainwright. His wife, was Sarah Raven, whom in married in Charleston, SC. I am a descendant of Stephen Bedon Daniell/a son mentioned in John's will - who married Ann Goodlet Howe, a dtr of Major Gen. Robert Howe and Sarah Grange of NC.)
I also have will of Sarah Grange Howe, wife of Robert Howe, which is dated 1796 - proved 1804 - Brunswick County, NC - and copy of will of Sarah Raven Daniell, wife of John Daniell (1) which may be dated 1788/date not clear on my copy.
(2) JOHN DANIELL, BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC. Dated 5 January, 1771.
Mentions: My loving wife, Ann Daniell. Brothers: Robert Daniell, George Daniell,William Daniell,& Stephen Beton Daniell.
(This 2nd John Daniell will was copied at the State Archives in Raleigh, NC. There is an attached sheet relating to when above will was proven but it is not clear enough for me to quote. The original may be easier to read.)
The will - dated January 5, 1771 - was written by John Daniell, a son of John Daniell and Sarah Raven (1st will.)
John Daniell/2nd will/does not mention his wife's maiden name. In an old handwritten lineage chart I copied in Charleston, SC - it is written that he married Anne Quince - but I cannot verify this. Perhaps you - or someone else - viewing this posting may be able to do so.
