Heraldry of Britain often derives from the symbolism of all component countries, and also of the various nations that have influenbced it, e.g., the Normans, the Vikings, etc. Therefore it is often impossible to tell for sure simply by looking at the heraldry. D'Anyers, however, is known to be Norman, and the family settled in Wales.
