Do you have the information on Clementina and Matilda's HAMILTON family -- I do if you need it. Some of the folks at Mars Hill Cemetery say this was HAMBLETON but all instances I have seen are HAMILTON.

Between, you and me. I do not know how much of their stuff to believe. I know they have pushed the MELTON children from this marriage over those from William's previous marriage. As we both know, a second wife often does this and there is a lot better documentation for the children of Mary MELTON, whom he married in 1787, than there is for the children of William's first wife whom he married ABT 1760. According to the list they have, he had about 20 odd children from two marriages.

My biggest complaint about their data is there is no way I will believe he did not have a son, named Robert, by his first wife. If his first wife was a Rachel G. HOWE, whose father we know to be named Robert HOWE, and William's older brother was name Robert and that was also the name of his grandfather, naming patterns of the time dictate he would more than likely have a son, named Robert, by his first wife. Whether this Robert died as an infant, I do not know but I know he would have normally had a son named Robert and John before he started using non-family names.

As I stated previously, I just think his second wife wrote off the other children of the first wife and unless we see them listed in various deeds or other primary source material, we do not know about them.

There are a lot of names in this bunch that interest me, especially the WISE and BRANTLEY names. I also know my second cousin, Dr. Anne KILPATRICK (b. 1910) of Atlanta, told me the DANIEL family who lived behind them on Milledge Avenue in Athens in the 1930's was related to her. I also know this DANIEL family were the children of Robert Grier DANIELL and Anne Elizabeth JENKINS and this Robert was a grandson of Jeremiah Melton DANIEL, one of William's children by his second wife, Mary MELTON.

Anne's mother, Eva Pauline RICHTER (1875-1943) was my first-cousin, once removed, and the only DANIEL connected to Eva's family was her aunt, Alice Elizabeth DANIEL (1854-1924) who married her uncle, John C. RICHTER, Sr. of Madison, GA -- these are my paternal grandparents.
