Further to the profligacy of these two brothers in law, Thomas Daniell was high sheriff of Cornwall in 1826 and was remembered in his obituary as having lavished money on public celebrations in a way no-one else had before or since during his time in that office. He also paid out lot of money to have Trellisick extended and the front of the house remodelled. He was also careless with money - my uncle has a newspaper cutting of an advertisement he placed stating that he had mislaid £3000 and would be keen to hear from whoever had it.
Family tradition says he took his family to Boulogne but the legal documents relating to the sale of his assets to pay off his creditors (his brother Ralph Allen appears to have acted as executor) he is stated as being at that time resident in Baden Baden, along with Lucy, who is also named in the legal documents.
