I the U.S. Bureau of land Grant records for OH we find one Isaac DANKS granted as part of the series of lands given under "the grants of land appropriated for the Regugees from the British Provinces of Canada and Nova Scotia" dated May 7, 1802. This would suggest this Isaac was at one time a Canadian, yet refugee of the Revolutionary War (the act was written c 1798) and hence a republic sympathizer. If Benoni and others settled in NY then it is possible Isaac (who appears in the Cumberland NS list of DANKS) settled farther west and is the progenitor of those OH DANKS of Ashtabula (but there is still confusion to me since many of those persons state their parents were from MA, not NY, or NS?!)
Westmoreland, Cumberland NS, CANADA, 1764, DANKS here:
Land Grants Isaac DANKS, OH, USA, 1802 here:
The DANKS I'm trying to piece together include those later granted land in WI - Almon, Royal O. and Eri P. - see this link:
... all of whom are related to Canadian settlers, UELs, traveling via Dane Co. WI, and Knox Co., IA - the STARR and GROAT families specifically. I will post a summary of what I've found a little later this weekend.
